Philippe Peters overleden
Hedenmiddag bereikte ons het trieste bericht dat ridder Philippe Peters vanochtend in een ziekenhuis in Luik is overleden aan de gevolgen van een hartaanval.
Philippe was als ridder en commandeur voor Wallonië en later voor de Commanderij voor de Oblaten rond de Abdij van Chevetogne zeer actief voor de broederschap in Franstalig België en een goede vriend voor velen.
Hij zal zeer worden gemist. Wij wensen alle familie en nabestaanden veel sterkte.
David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Some of our members support the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. We would like to introduce this institution to our other members and aks them to consider supporting this wonderful initiative.
Founded in 1977 by Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E, in honour of the memory of her late husband, famous naturalist and founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE, the DSWT claims a rich and deeply rooted family history in wildlife and conservation.
At the heart of the DSWT’s conservation activities is the Orphans’ Project, which has achieved world-wide acclaim through its hugely successful elephant and rhino rescue and rehabilitation program. The Orphans’ Project exists to offer hope for the future of Kenya’s threatened elephant and rhino populations as they struggle against the threat of poaching for their ivory and horn, and the loss of habitat due to human population pressures and conflict, deforestation and drought.
To date the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has successfully hand-raised over 150 infant elephants and has accomplished its long-term conservation priority by effectively reintegrating orphans back into the wild herds of Tsavo, claiming many healthy wild-born calves from former-orphaned elephants raised in our care.
The DSWT has remained true to its principles and ideals, remaining a sustainable and flexible organization. Guided by experienced and dedicated Trustees and assisted by an Advisory Committee of proactive naturalists with a lifetime of wildlife and environmental experience, the Trust takes effective action and achieves long-lasting results.

His Royal Highness The Prince David of Georgia, Royal Patron of the Royal Confraternity of Saint Teotónio, was invited to witness the historic proclamation of King Felipe VI as King of Spain, following the abdication of his dearly beloved father, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I, who played a historic role
in steering Spain to its modern democratic status.
The proclamation, which included King Felipe’s oath to the Spanish Consti
tution, took place in front of the assembled Cortes Generales, in the Congress of Deputies in Madrid. It was attended by the head of the Spanish government, ministers, and lawmakers, alongside with a select choice of distinguished guests.
The Prince David of Georgia, who resided for a considerable amount of time in Spain, recalled his fondness and deference for the previous King, Juan Carlos I, and his gratitude to the King’s generosity in hosting the Georgian Royal Family in his Kingdom until them return to Georgia.
Prince David is born as the second son of Spanish race car driver, Prince George Bagrationi-Mukhraneli, by his first wife Doña María de las Mercedes de Zornoza y Ponce de León in Madrid, Spain. Continuing the close familial relationship of the Mukhrani line with the Spanish Royal family, Bagrationi was among the few guests invited to Felipe VI’s 2014 enthronement as king.
Prince David sent his warm, heartfelt congratulations to King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, wishing them a long, peaceful and prosperous Reign, and asked for God’s guidance to help them to lead their subjects forward in difficult and trying economic times.

Toch nog goed weer bij stralende investituur in Chevetogne
Op 21 en 22 juni jongstleden heeft het Prioraat Principaal voor de Benelux van de RCST weer haar jaarlijkse investituur gehouden. De plechtigheden en feestelijkheden vonden dit jaar plaats in Chevetogne, nabij Ciney in België. De organisatie lag dan ook in handen van het Prioraat voor het Koninkrijk België.
Er zijn vier nieuwe leden toegetreden, drie Ridders en één Dame. Deze dame (tevens de enige Nederlandse postulant dit jaar) is Andrea de Vries-Nihof, echtgenote van Machiel de Vries, vice-Prior Principaal voor de Benelux en fungerend Prior voor het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.

Machiel de Vries vice-prior voor Benelux
Machiel de Vries, thans fungerend Prior voor het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, is op 6 oktober j.l. tijdens een bijeenkomst van de RCST in Guimarães (Portugal) door Ulisses Rolim, Groot Prior van de broederschap, benoemd tot vice-Prior Principaal voor de Benelux. Hij is daarmee nu ook formeel de eerste plaatsvervanger van Prior Principaal Manuel Duchesne, een rol die De Vries in de praktijk al enige tijd vervulde.
In een eerste reactie gaf de Nederlandse Prior aan blij en opgetogen te zijn over de benoeming. Hij bedankte daarbij niet alleen de Groot Prior en de Prior Principaal voor het in hem gestelde vertrouwen, maar ook zijn collega voor het Groothertogdom Luxemburg, Prior Marc Jonckers. De Vries: “We maken de Benelux met z’n drieen, Marc, Manuel en ik. Die drie prioraten vormen de basis de basis van ons samenwerkingsverband, dáár wordt het werk gedaan. Het is een eervolle benoeming en ik ben er erg blij mee. Het is voor mij een belangrijke aanmoediging om door te gaan met het versterken van onze broederschap, in Nederland en de rest van de Benelux. Het prioraat principaal (het samenwerkingsverband van de drie prioraten binnen de Benelux – red.) is daarbij belangrijk als modus voor de samenwerking tussen onze drie kleine prioraten. Als ik als vice-Prior Principaal een stevige bijdrage aan die samenwerking kan bijdragen, is mijn missie geslaagd. Het prioraat principaal is er ten behoeve van de drie prioraten die haar gezamenlijk vormen, dat is daarbij mijn uitgangspunt.
Al eerder wees De Vries zelf de nieuwe (fungerend) vice-Prior voor Nederland aan: Bob Juchter van Bergen Quast. De eerste investituur voor het prioraat Nederland staat voor het voorjaar van 2014 gepland.

H.H. ABUNA PAULOS PATRIARCH OF THE ETHIOPIAN ORTHODOX TEWAHEDO CHURCH, GRAND CROSS OF THE RCST, HAVE JOINED THE LORD IN THE HOUSE OF THE FATHER, ON 16 AUGUST 2012Abune Paulos (born 3 November 1935) was Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (1992–2012). His full title was “His Holiness Abuna Paulos, Fifth Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Ichege of the See of St. Tekle Haymanot, Archbishop of Axum and one of the seven serving Presidents of the World Council of Churches.”
Our sincere and respectful condolences to the Ethiopian Church and to the Ethiopian people. May the Lord grant him eternal rest. Rest in peace.
